Palawan offers longest white beach in lieu of Boracay

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY

In these times of biting summer heat, local and foreign tourists are encouraged to visit Palawan's 14-kilometer stretch of white sand beach, which is believed to be the country's longest.

While Boracay Island’s almost 4-kilometer of powdery white beachfront is getting more congested, Palawan's 14-kilometer spectacle, is a potential alternative destination for sun bathers and beach lovers.

Dubbed as "Long Beach," it lies between barangays New Agutaya and Alimanguhan in San Vicente, Palawan.

The beach at San Vicente, some 164 kilometers northwest of here, is definitely worth a visit for its sheer length.

Due to its tourism potentials, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has ordered the inclusion of the San Vicente airport as one of the priority projects under the Super Regions concept.

With this development, the sale of tropical islands, beach front properties, residential lots and other real estate properties in San Vicente (hometown of Rep. Antonio Alvarez) have become a thriving business.

”Buying an island or beach front property in Palawan is truly a dream come true”, said Tony Cabrestante, a real estate broker.

Couple Rogelio and Catherine Manlavi disclosed that more investors have started acquiring lands in the area near Long Beach.

Beach front and residential lots, which used to sell a bit cheaper in the previous years, now command prices ranging from P250 to P300 per square meter or even higher. But a hectare is estimatedly cost about P1 million.

”Investors now look at Long Beach as an alternative to Boracay Island”, they said.

Currently, most of the tourist going to San Vicente flock to Port Barton, which is famous for its scenic beaches and coves.

No doubt, the locality's nearby exotic islands, great dives, rainforests, its secluded beaches and real rural atmosphere attract visitors.

Aside from Long Beach, a hidden coves named Daplac (in Boayan island) and numerous other dive sites are equally exciting along with the white sand beach in adjoining Cagbolo Island. (PNA)
